| PODz Youth Mentoring is a community project for youths completing their rehabilitation programme with the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS). The support and friendship that the youth receive from their mentors helps them to build resilience and they are better equipped to withstand negative influences when they are discharged from Singapore Girls’ Home.
Each mentoring relationship will be unique. To meet the needs of each youth, mentors are specially matched with them so their life experiences and backgrounds can benefit the youths they are reaching out to.
Mentors are from diverse backgrounds such as undergraduates and even retired principals. They are volunteers above 21 years of age who have a heart for youths and enjoy befriending them. With their life experiences, mentors will guide and inspire the girls, impart life skills to them and motivate them towards educational and vocational pursuits that would enrich their lives.
Lutheran Community Care Services Ltd (LCCS) works hand in hand with the mentors to provide training that will equip them with skills to build strong mentoring relationships with their youths. Support groups and ongoing training during the mentoring process will be provided to help mentors have more meaningful sessions with their youths. This in turn gives mentors valuable learning opportunities for their own personal development.
