Lutheran Community Care Services Ltd is one of the few agencies accredited by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) to conduct home study reports.

Prospective adopters who wish to adopt a child from a foreign country should take note of the following:

  1. be at least 25 years old and at least 21 years older than the child
  2. required to undergo a home study assessment before proceeding with immigration and legal procedures for adoption
  3. being a resident of Singapore
  4. adopters who wish to legalize the adoption in Singapore are required to attend a workshop on adoption disclosure.

Foreign prospective adopters are advised to check with their respective embassies concerning the adoption requirements. This is to ensure that the child will be conferred citizenship after the adoption has been legalized.

The Adoption Process

The process of home study assessments requires a minimum of five weeks to complete. All prospective adoptive parents are to attend an office interview at the agency. The interview is conducted by an accredited home study assessor who will assess the adopters’ motivation and readiness to adopt. This will be followed by a home visit. Once the home study report is completed, the adopters can proceed with the adoption procedure.
